LINCS Project
The Tarjan Center at UCLA recently concluded a four year, $1.4 million collaborative grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service.

The Tarjan Center along with partners University of Miami’s Mailman Center, University of Hawaii’s Center on Disability Studies, and the Hands-On Network, developed 10 service inclusion networks called LINCS (Local Inclusion Network Collaboratives) in Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, Riverside/San Bernardino,Miami-Dade, Broward, Pensacola, Maui, the Big Island, and O’ahu.

These regional networks linked local volunteer programs with disability partner organizations. The networks developed strategies to recruit, retain and celebrate people with disabilities in volunteer positions.

LINCS included more than 1000 community based organizations, engaged 5000 individuals with disabilities in 65,000 hours of service to their local communities and helped 500 volunteer programs make more than 1000 separate improvements to accessibility.

California Consortium for Emergency Preparedness and Developmental Disability
The Tarjan Center was awarded a Project of National Significance Grant by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities, ACF/ Dept. of Health and Human Services. The Tarjan Center has established and will coordinate the California Consortium for Emergency Preparedness and Developmental Disability to develop an implementation plan to create a one-stop center for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to prepare for and remain intact during an emergency transition. The Consortium includes more than 16 disability and emergency response agencies and policymakers as well as parent advocates and advocates with developmental disabilities.

Our goals are to 1) Establish an online California Training and Technical Assistance Center for Emergency Preparedness and Developmental Disability, 2) Create coordinated response and interagency efforts to prepare individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) and their families for emergency situations, and 3) Develop an effective approach for providing individualized, emergency preparation support to 60 individuals with DD and families. During this one-year planning process we will specify outreach strategies to the target population, administrative and operational practices, information technology capacity, coordination of participating agencies, and financing to assure the long term sustainability of the Center.

CaliforniaVolunteers Disability Inclusion Project
The Tarjan Center Service Inclusion Project is providing technical assistance to CaliforniaVolunteers, California's State Commission on Service. The Tarjan Center Service Inclusion Project will increase the number of Californians with disabilities serving as AmeriCorps members and volunteers in AmeriCorps State/National Programs and/or California Volunteer Matching Network (CVMN) Hubs.

TCSIP provided subgrants to 13 strategically selected AmeriCorps Programs, Disability Organizations and CVMN Hubs to pilot service projects that would include individuals with disabilities in shorter-term volunteerism as a bridge to on-going involvement and/or full-fledged national service.
